📚 Last month, our librarian Ms. Platt represented BFS at the 2025 American Association of School Librarians Conference in St. Louis, Missouri! She traveled the farthest of any attendee, met many of our students’ favorite authors, and even moderated sessions on building a reading culture and using emerging technology in education. She returned with a collection of signed books, all dedicated to BFS! ✨

Happy Halloween, BFS! Our amazing PTSO volunteers truly outdid themselves this year! They transformed our doors and hallways with spook-tacular decorations and hosted a fa-boo-lous trick-or-treat event filled with fun games and seasonal crafts for our Early Childhood and Elementary students! PTSO also made sure our Middle and High School students joined the celebration with tasty treat bags. We`re so grateful to everyone who generously donated candy, time, and effort to make this annual event a meaningful and memorable tradition. Thanks to the creativity and dedication of our PTSO, this year`s Halloween was a fang-tastic success!

When Martians Landed at BFS… Our Students Chose Kindness! As part of this month’s Bullying Prevention lesson, BFS students took part in a creative social inclusion activity using our new Wayfinder program—a social-emotional learning curriculum from Stanford University’s d.school (Design School).
Faced with “Martians” who wanted to decide who could stay or leave Earth based on their jobs, students quickly realized they had the power to stand up for inclusion and kindness.
Led by our school counselor Ms. Singley, Wayfinder is now part of our weekly Advisory Program (Grades K–12), helping students live out our SHARK Values—Socially Conscious, Hardworking, Active Communicator, Respectful, and Kind.

BFS teachers Mr. Kavanaugh and Ms. Sandstrom recently attended the “Empowering Educators to Support Multilingual Learners in the Early Childhood Classroom” workshop. The sessions focused on how young children develop language and how educators can support multilingual learners by building vocabulary, using effective scaffolding strategies, and valuing students’ home languages and cultural identities. Participants explored engaging classroom practices that promote confidence, communication, and meaningful language use through interactive activities and collaborative discussions. Teachers also reflected on their current practices and considered how small shifts could create more equitable learning opportunities.
The workshop provided practical, research-informed strategies teachers can implement immediately and sparked new ideas for creating inclusive, language-rich environments. It was a valuable opportunity for professional growth and collaboration that will positively influence classroom practice and support students’ success.
