📚 Last month, our librarian Ms. Platt represented BFS at the 2025 American Association of School Librarians Conference in St. Louis, Missouri! She traveled the farthest of any attendee, met many of our students’ favorite authors, and even moderated sessions on building a reading culture and using emerging technology in education. She returned with a collection of signed books, all dedicated to BFS! ✨

BFS teachers Mr. Kavanaugh and Ms. Sandstrom recently attended the “Empowering Educators to Support Multilingual Learners in the Early Childhood Classroom” workshop. The sessions focused on how young children develop language and how educators can support multilingual learners by building vocabulary, using effective scaffolding strategies, and valuing students’ home languages and cultural identities. Participants explored engaging classroom practices that promote confidence, communication, and meaningful language use through interactive activities and collaborative discussions. Teachers also reflected on their current practices and considered how small shifts could create more equitable learning opportunities.
The workshop provided practical, research-informed strategies teachers can implement immediately and sparked new ideas for creating inclusive, language-rich environments. It was a valuable opportunity for professional growth and collaboration that will positively influence classroom practice and support students’ success.
