Busan Foreign School is proud to share outstanding student achievements from this year’s Mathematical Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS), a globally recognized competition that challenges students to apply advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills. This year, more than 56,000 students in Grades 4–6 from 30 countries participated.
BFS students demonstrated exceptional performance on the international stage. As a team, our top 10 scorers placed BFS in the top 20% of schools worldwide, a testament to the strength of our math program and our students’ commitment to excellence.
Individually, students earned impressive distinctions across multiple global performance bands:
- Gold Pin (Top 2% Globally):
Agatha A. - Medal Recipients:
Kyuwon L., Agatha A. - Silver Pin (Top 10% Globally):
Anthony L., Kyuwon L., Dylan S., Zhengxi T., Ayden K., Jacob J. - Embroidered Patch (Top 20% Globally):
Léa G., Ella K., Margaret H., Kunbeen P., Yeobeen P. - Embroidered Patch (Top 25–50% Globally):
Andrew B., William C., Jisika P., Brighton K., Henry L., Aiden B., Owen J., Amber J., Ellie K.
Of particular note, Agatha A. achieved a top 2% global ranking, earning a Gold Pin and placing among the highest-performing students in the world.
Beyond the results, these achievements reflect the daily learning habits and character development emphasized through BFS’s SHARK Student Learning Outcomes:
- Socially Conscious: Students engage in a global competition, recognizing their place within an international academic community.
- Hardworking: Preparation for MOEMS requires persistence, practice, and resilience in tackling complex problems.
- Active Communicators: Students explain their mathematical thinking clearly and collaborate with peers and teachers.
- Respectful: Participants demonstrate integrity and sportsmanship throughout the competition process.
- Keep Learning: MOEMS embodies curiosity and a growth mindset, pushing students to continuously develop their problem-solving abilities.
These results highlight how BFS students not only achieve at a high academic level but also embody the values that define our learning community. From building foundational skills to encouraging higher-order thinking, BFS continues to prepare students to compete—and succeed—on a global stage.
Congratulations to all of our participating students for their hard work, perseverance, and excellence in mathematics.
