For nearly two decades, the Busan Foreign School Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) has recognized students who exemplify the organization’s four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. This year, BFS proudly welcomed 11 new members during its annual NHS Induction Ceremony, continuing one of our school’s most meaningful traditions.

The ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work, academic dedication, and personal character of our students. But NHS membership represents more than academic achievement. It reflects a commitment to leadership, responsibility, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Over the years, NHS members have played an instrumental role in many of BFS’s community service initiatives. From organizing awareness campaigns addressing gun violence to raising funds for earthquake relief in Türkiye, supporting displaced families in Pakistan, and coordinating toy drives, our students have consistently looked beyond the classroom to respond to the needs of others.

Our NHS chapter has also maintained an ongoing relationship with Help4Refugees, an organization founded by Jordan Hatter, supporting humanitarian relief efforts for Syrian refugees. These initiatives demonstrate how students at BFS turn compassion into action, developing an understanding of global challenges while recognizing their own ability to make a difference.

For a small, close-knit international school, traditions like the NHS Induction Ceremony carry special significance. They connect generations of students, celebrate shared values, and reinforce the sense of belonging that defines our community. Nearly 20 years after establishing our NHS chapter, those values remain as relevant as ever.

Congratulations to our 11 newest National Honor Society members! Your achievements have earned you this recognition, and we look forward to seeing how you carry forward BFS’s tradition of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

30 Years of Learning. Growing. Belonging.
