Mr. Jordan Hatter, founder of Help4Refugees, made his third visit to Busan Foreign School last week, continuing a meaningful partnership with the school and engaging students in conversations about the challenges faced by refugee communities around the world. In his presentation to Grade 5 students, Mr. Hatter emphasized that empathy is a choice — one that connects us to others and empowers us to make a difference. We extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Hernandez for his leadership in fostering this impactful relationship.
Through stories from his organization’s recent work in a remote refugee camp in the Kingdom of Jordan, students learned how access to education can transform lives. Help4Refugees recently secured transportation for young refugees to attend a local school, creating new opportunities — particularly for girls — and helping them build brighter futures.
Mr.Hatter also reflected on BFS’s past support for Noor, a Syrian refugee mother who, after being displaced by the 2023 Türkiye earthquake, was able to move her family into an apartment thanks to the generosity of the BFS community. “The Grade 5 class at BFS has made a huge difference in people’s lives,” he shared.
During a separate high school assembly, students joined a live video call with an 18-year-old refugee who has lived in a camp since 2014. Now a mother of two young children, she described her daily efforts to gather firewood and secure food for her family. While life in Jordan offers relative safety, political and social restrictions limit refugees’ ability to work or access basic rights.
Mr. Hatter encouraged students to live out the school’s SHARK values by being Socially Conscious in understanding global issues, Hardworking in their efforts to help others, Active Communicators who listen with empathy, Respectful toward those with different experiences, and committed to Keeping Learning about the world around them.
His third visit helps cement what we hope will be a long-term relationship between Busan Foreign School and Help4Refugees — one grounded in empathy, service, and global citizenship.
