From BFS to NYU Abu Dhabi—and Now NYU School of Law!

From Busan Foreign School to NYU Abu Dhabi, the private sector, public service, and international human rights advocacy, Min Jeong has followed a wide-ranging path shaped by intellectual curiosity and a commitment to making a difference.

Min graduated from BFS in 2019 before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with a minor in Economics, from NYU Abu Dhabi in 2023. Since graduating from university, she has gained experience in finance, government, and nonprofit advocacy.

Min worked on the finance and accounting team for Converse Korea’s retail operator, which oversees the brand’s online and offline retailers nationwide. She also interned at the National Assembly and later volunteered and worked with the Youth Forum of North Korean Democratization, an NGO promoting human rights in North Korea.

This fall, Min will return to NYU to begin her Juris Doctor at NYU School of Law as the recipient of a full-tuition Dean’s Scholarship.

We caught up with Min to learn more about her journey, her decision to pursue law, and the lessons she has carried with her from BFS.

What inspired you to pursue a career in law?

I first became interested in pursuing a legal career during a law firm internship in college, where I gained exposure to litigation, cross-border transactions, and corporate compliance.

That interest grew during my internship at the National Assembly, where I participated in legislative advocacy for persons with disabilities. I also had the privilege of attending the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council through my volunteer work. That experience showed me the important role lawyers can play in advancing legal change at the international level.

Together, these experiences cemented my desire to pursue a JD. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend NYU School of Law on a full-tuition Dean’s Scholarship.

I am currently interested in corporate law, international law, and tax law, but I look forward to exploring different practice areas and continuing to grow as a legal professional.

What qualities or habits have helped you succeed beyond university?

Discipline, determination, and a collaborative mindset have helped me earn the trust of others and take on greater responsibilities in the workplace.

I also believe it is important to take time to reflect on your experiences. Reflection allows you to learn from both your mistakes and accomplishments while gaining a better understanding of what motivates and drives you.

What memories from BFS still stand out to you?

I have very fond memories of my teachers at BFS. Every one of them was willing to speak with students outside of class and offer support in any way they could.

After Student Council meetings, we would often stay much longer simply to spend time with one another and with our advisor, Mr. Virgen. I also remember Mr. Gates wrote every student in our math class a handwritten letter before graduation. Ms. Leland and Ms. Boyle gave our senior class a thoughtful and candid “big sister” talk about what to expect in college.

I could go on, but these are a few examples of the camaraderie and support that students are fortunate to experience at BFS.

What advice would you give current BFS students?

Stay tough and do not give up. Push yourself to make the most of every opportunity, including the unexpected ones, and actively explore new ideas, experiences, and perspectives.

Your undergraduate years can be as transformative as people say, so embrace that experience and give yourself space to grow. I had no idea that I would major in Philosophy and eventually attend law school, but I am extremely thankful to be on the path I am on today.

Most importantly, remember to have fun along the way and enjoy the journey.
