Monthly Assemblies Bring SLOs to Life in EC/ES

The Schoolwide Learner Outcomes (SLOs) are a set of core values that describe what a graduating student should know, understand, and be able to do. At BFS, the SLO values serve as an integral way to bring together our diverse learners as they develop the traits of a true SHARK:

• S-Socially Conscious: Be empathetic!
  • Socially Conscious students care about everyone.
• H-Hardworking: Do your best work!
  • Hardworking Learners do their best.
• A-Active Communicator: Be an advocate!
  • Active communicators listen and collaborate.
• R-Respectful: Be Responsible for yourself and others!
  • Respectful Citizens are responsible for themselves and others.
• K-Keep learning: We continue to learn and grow!
  • BFS students have a growth mindset.

Each month, the Early Childhood (EC) and Elementary (ES) classes come together for an assembly focused on one of the SLOs.  To start off the first assembly in August, EC/ES Principal Ms. Harvey hosted with support from our Anchored4Life Team Leaders.  The assembly focused on how to be Socially Conscious at school and in life.  Using a morning meeting format, students confidently shared their ideas about what it means to be Socially Conscious then participated in an engaging activity to reinforce their understanding.  Through the EC/ES SLO assemblies, students gain a better understanding of the SHARK values. 

Students learned how to be Socially conscious by:

• developing empathy and awareness for being inclusive of different opinions and experiences
• gaining an understanding and appreciation of various cultures
• demonstrating an ability to work well in individual and group settings
• demonstrating ethical social and academic behaviors

More than just a poster on a wall, the SHARK values are embedded into daily life at BFS as teachers guide student interaction, engagement, and learning.

We look forward to seeing each class take on the responsibility of leading the assemblies throughout the school year. Next up in September, Grade 5 will host and share about being Hardworking!
