As part of their ongoing Makerspace “Recycling Initiative Project,” BFS Grade 5 students recently visited the Busan Resources Recycling Coordination Center to learn more about environmental sustainability, recycling systems, and the impact of waste on our community.
During the field trip, students explored Busan’s green initiatives and gained a deeper understanding of how single-use plastics contribute to environmental challenges. Through a guided tour of the recycling facilities, students learned how waste is processed and managed throughout the city and discussed possible solutions for creating a more sustainable future.
Students also had the opportunity to browse an inspiring art exhibition featuring works created entirely from recovered waste materials and enjoyed a variety of interactive displays focused on recycling and environmental awareness.
To conclude the experience, students participated in a special upcycling art activity where they transformed recyclable materials into creative self-portraits, applying both artistic expression and environmental thinking.
The visit directly supported the students’ current Makerspace unit, in which they are analyzing waste management practices at BFS, brainstorming practical solutions, and developing an awareness campaign to encourage recycling within the school community.
Through hands-on learning experiences like this, BFS students continue to develop critical thinking, creativity, and environmental responsibility while exploring ways to make a positive impact both locally and globally.
