Selecting the right college or university is one of the most important and life-defining decisions a student will make. At Busan Foreign School, we are committed to ensuring that every student—and every family—feels supported, informed, and confident throughout that journey.
BFS has built a strong legacy of academic excellence and global achievement. Ninety-nine percent of our graduates pursue post-secondary studies, with many gaining admission to highly selective universities across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia—including Ivy League institutions and other top-ranked schools. This success reflects our belief that with the right preparation, guidance, and opportunities, students can confidently pursue meaningful pathways anywhere in the world.
Through personalized counseling, comprehensive resources, and intentional planning, we empower students to approach the college admissions process with clarity and purpose. Our goal is not only to help students stand out in a competitive landscape, but also to ensure they are prepared to thrive in university and beyond.
A Four-Year Journey of Guidance and Growth
College counseling at BFS is not limited to a student’s senior year; it is a thoughtful, developmental process that begins in Grade 9. Mr. Glenn Saunders, who has served as College Counselor at BFS since 2010, works closely with students from their first year of high school to help them understand university systems around the world, explore academic interests and potential majors, and make strategic decisions about course selection, AP offerings, and extracurricular involvement.
As students mature, they receive increasingly personalized support—learning how to build a strong and authentic student profile, refine application strategies, and manage the many components of the admissions process, including essays, recommendations, deadlines, and financial aid requirements. By the time they reach Grade 12, students have a clear sense of direction and the confidence to present their best selves to universities. Mr. Saunders’ approach is student-centered and grounded in the belief that the right fit matters more than rankings.
Comprehensive Support and College-Ready Infrastructure
BFS provides a wide range of opportunities designed to help students and families navigate college planning with success. All students in Grades 9–11 take the PSAT on campus at no cost, giving them early exposure to standardized testing and meaningful feedback on academic strengths. BFS also serves as an official SAT Testing Center, open exclusively to BFS students, enabling test-takers to sit their exams in a familiar and low-stress setting.
Throughout the year, the school hosts universities from around the world who visit campus to meet with students, answer questions, and introduce exciting opportunities abroad. Frequent parent and student information sessions guide families through topics such as admissions timelines, financial planning, essay development, and standardized testing. In addition, the Grade 12 English curriculum is intentionally aligned with the college application process, giving students structured time and expert feedback to craft strong personal statements.
To support planning and organization, students use MaiaLearning, a college and career platform that enables them to research universities, track application progress, and communicate with the counseling office. Mr. Saunders also oversees all PSAT, SAT, and AP testing at BFS, ensuring that students experience a smooth and well-coordinated process from start to finish.
Results That Reach Around the World
BFS graduates continue their studies at universities across multiple continents, reflecting both the international diversity and academic ambition of our community. From Ivy League research institutions to leading liberal arts colleges and globally recognized universities in Canada, the UK, and Asia, BFS students bring with them the skills, values, and global mindset they developed throughout their time at school.
Their success is shaped by rigorous academics, thoughtful course planning, strong relationships with teachers and mentors, and a clearly articulated counseling process that supports each student as an individual.
At Busan Foreign School, we prepare students not only for college admissions, but for lifelong success—in learning, in leadership, and in life after graduation.
