Every October, students in Grades 9–11 at Busan Foreign School (BFS) participate in the digital Preliminary SAT (PSAT)—a foundational experience in their college preparation journey. As the only school in Busan offering the PSAT each fall, BFS ensures that students have access to an essential benchmark exam recognized worldwide for assessing college readiness.
At BFS, the PSAT is more than a practice test—it’s a strategic component of our four-year college counseling pathway. Through this experience, students gain first hand exposure to the digital SAT environment, develop test-taking confidence, and receive detailed performance insights that inform their academic planning and college counseling meetings.

For students in Grade 11, the PSAT also serves as the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program, one of the most prestigious academic recognitions in the United States. Meanwhile, students in Grades 9 and 10 use their results to identify areas for growth and begin shaping realistic college goals early in high school.
BFS covers the full cost of PSAT testing for all students in Grades 9–11, underscoring our belief that every student deserves access to high-quality college preparation. This investment complements our comprehensive counseling program, which includes individualized guidance, SAT and ACT planning, essay writing workshops, and ongoing parent information sessions.
Together with our 15+ Advanced Placement (AP) courses, MaiaLearning college-planning platform, and one-on-one academic advising, the PSAT plays a vital role in helping BFS students build the skills, mindset, and confidence needed to thrive in university and beyond.
At BFS, we prepare students early, consistently, and intentionally—empowering them not only to perform well on standardized tests, but to approach the college admissions process with clarity, purpose, and ambition.
