Focused by Alyson Gerber, is a realistic fiction book that follows a story about a middle school girl who has difficulties controlling her thoughts. She knows she has to do her homework and she knows that she has to focus, but sometimes, she just can’t help it. With everyone around chewing gum, whispering, and snickering, how is she supposed to do that? This is starting to become a problem; not only at school but even in chess practice or hanging out with her friends. Her mind is unable to stay focused on one subject. With the help of her loving friends and family, Clea succeeds in increasing her grades, and even making some new friends. I rate this book a five out of five because the author well emphasizes the importance of friendship and family, while showing deep thoughts about the character. Books such like Out of my Mind, Real, or Powerless are exceptional written novels that are very similar to Focused. I certainly recommend this book to whoever is a bookworm.
