The Busan Foreign School community had a terrific night out supporting the Busan BNK Sum women’s basketball team.(@bnksum.basketball) Over 60 BFS families, students, and HS boys’ and girls’ basketball players turned out to cheer together.
Two lucky Sharks joined the halftime fun—competing in 2-on-2 matchups and shooting contests—and our high schoolers did us proud, winning the mini competition and winning brand-new Nike basketball shoes!
A great bonding moment that reflects who we are: a small school with a tight-knit, family feel.
BTW: BNK Sum sealed an exciting win that came down to the final minute!

The Spirit Week fun continued on Wednesday with a brand-new challenge: Monochrome Day! Students showed off their creativity by rocking head-to-toe outfits in a single color, proving that sometimes one color is all you need to make a bold statement. Classrooms were filled with standout looks, with black, gray, and pink emerging as some of the most popular choices of the day. With coordinated outfits, everyone embraced the challenge and brought their own unique individual style to the mix. The energy and school spirit were impossible to miss, making it another unforgettable day! 🖤🩶🩷

In 1983, the third Monday in January was established as a U.S. federal holiday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr`s contributions to the American Civil Rights Movement. In Grade 4, Ms. Park shared with students about the history of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and how her home state of California recognized a state holiday in his honor four years before the federal holiday was established. Students in Oakland, California were instrumental in advocating for the recognition of Dr. King`s legacy through the holiday.
During the Writing workshop, Grade 4 students watched Dr. King`s I Have a Dream speech and shared their understanding of his messages of equality, unity, and hope. This important holiday reminds us of the continued need to peacefully advocate for racial equity and social justice for all people.

During the winter break, members of the Busan Foreign School Class of 2025 gathered for a mini-reunion, reconnecting with classmates and reflecting on their BFS journeys. Now studying at universities such as Rice University, Columbia University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Babson College, alumni shared stories from their first semester of university life and reminisced about their time at BFS.
Alumni also took time to visit classrooms and offer thoughtful advice and insights to this year’s graduating class, helping ease the transition to university. Reflecting the strength of our close-knit community, it was especially meaningful to reconnect with our graduates—and we are always grateful to see them return to campus and remain an active part of the BFS family. Once a shark, always a shark!
