Student Spotlight: Joy Cho
In AP Research, Joy Cho -- who was recently accepted to Brown University, didn’t just study a topic — she engineered a solution. Joy designed and tested a 3D-printed, MRI-compatible thermoregulatory cradle for medical research, teaching herself coding, 3D modeling, and engineering from scratch along the way.
Through trial, error, and persistence, she transformed an ambitious idea into a working prototype. Her project went beyond the classroom, connecting her with university researchers at Boise State and Oxford, and demonstrating the power of curiosity, resilience, and self-directed learning.
This is what AP Capstone looks like at BFS: students asking big questions, taking risks, and creating real-world solutions.

From Elephant’s Toothpaste and non-Newtonian fluids to air cannons and a colorful flame test finale, elementary students experienced science as hands-on, exciting, and full of discovery—all led by our high school scientists.

The last few days of school have been extra festive for Early Childhood and Elementary students. ✨ On Winter Wednesday, students wore their most decorative and fun socks 🧦 On Twinkle Thursday, they were decked out in seasonal hats, headbands, and accessories. 🧑🎄 On Festive Friday, we ended the week with fun and cozy sweaters ☃️. We hope this extra bit of sparkle made this week more special as we head into a joyful and well-deserved Winter Break! ❄️

This month, our Early Childhood students have been learning about winter and exploring a variety of winter holidays. Today at the EC Winter Concert, students showcased their learning and enjoyed a festive celebration of the winter season with their families. Our youngest Sharks proudly performed two songs before working together to build gingerbread houses with parents. We are grateful to Ms. Pochon for preparing students for the concert, and we thank Ms. Sandstrom and Ms. Robinson for supporting students as they explore and engage in meaningful learning experiences. We appreciate our parents for generously donating sweet treats and participating in this special event. 🎶🍬❄️

Our Student of the Quarter Assembly was a celebration of talent, school spirit, and what it truly means to be a BFS Shark.
The event opened with a student band performance, featuring Joy on percussion; Christie and David on vocals; Lisa on bass guitar; and Sunny and Dimitri on acoustic. The energy continued with a lighthearted—and surprisingly competitive—game of Simon Says that brought the entire High School together.
The highlight of the assembly was recognizing our Student of the Quarter award recipients, who truly embody our SHARK values through their character, leadership, and commitment to learning:
Kristina (Grade 11), Maiya (Grade 11), and Yuanqiang (Grade 9).
The assembly closed with a final musical performance by the student band, bringing the event full circle and ending on a high note. Congratulations to our award winners and to all of our students who continue to show what it means to be a BFS Shark. Great job, Sharks!
