Busan Foreign School’s high school SEED Science Club recently hosted a memorable Open Lab event designed to spark curiosity and excitement about science among elementary students in Grades 3, 4, and 5.

The school’s basement level was transformed into a lively space of exploration and discovery, featuring four interactive, hands-on stations led entirely by high school students. Younger participants rotated through activities including the dramatic foam eruption of Elephant’s Toothpaste, the surprising behavior of non-Newtonian fluids, the hair-raising fun of the Van de Graaff generator, and the powerful bursts from homemade air cannons.

Throughout the afternoon, elementary students eagerly asked questions, made predictions, and tested ideas—experiencing science as something active, engaging, and fun rather than something limited to a textbook. High school club members guided discussions, explained scientific concepts, and encouraged younger students to think like scientists by observing, hypothesizing, and reflecting on what they saw.

The event concluded with a visually striking flame test demonstration, filling the room with vibrant colors and excitement and providing a memorable finale to an inspiring day of learning.

The SEED Open Lab was a wonderful example of student leadership, mentorship, and community engagement at BFS. By sharing their passion for science, SEED members not only reinforced their own learning but also inspired the next generation of young scientists to explore, question, and discover.
