On December 15, 2025, Upper Elementary students in Grades 3 through 5 participated in the Science Learning Fair, presenting a wide range of research projects to parents and classmates. Students worked collaboratively in pairs or small groups to showcase their learning and scientific thinking.

Throughout Quarter 2, students engaged in Science units aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) on the following topics:

  • Grade 3 students explored ecosystems, organisms and habitats, as well as life cycles and traits.
  • Grade 4 students investigated Earth’s features, plate tectonics, and biogeology.
  • Grade 5 students focused on matter and energy in organisms and ecosystems.

The Science Learning Fair provided students with the opportunity to share a variety of projects ranging from magnets and animal adaptations, to erosion and earthquakes, and hydroelectric engines and plant growth

The Science Learning Fair provided an authentic opportunity for students to share their research through presentations. Grade 3 Teacher Mr. Bachiochi shared that,

This event is especially important because it gives students the opportunity to collaborate with classmates independently from teachers as they investigate questions, identify results, and develop presentations to share with other people.”

The event highlighted the Shark Keep learning spirit as students demonstrated critical thinking skills by researching questions, analyzing data, and developing problem-solving strategies. Using resources from Amplify Science and Mystery Science, our innovative scientists applied their knowledge to deepen their understanding of the world around them.

By offering performance-based assessments in science, the Science Learning Fair helps establish a strong foundation for life-long learning and discovery. This event underscores the importance of science education in nurturing the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers.

We look forward to Early Childhood and Lower Elementary students (Kindergarten through Grade 2) hosting their Science Learning Fair in Quarter 4.
