At Busan Foreign School (BFS), learning never stops—not just for students, but for teachers, too. Continuing our commitment to professional growth and inclusive education, Mr. Kavanaugh and Ms. Sandstrom recently participated in the workshop “Empowering Educators to Support Multilingual Learners in the Early Childhood Classroom.”
Expanding Expertise in Multilingual Learning
The workshop explored how young children develop language and how educators can best support multilingual learners by:
- Building vocabulary through intentional and meaningful instruction
- Applying scaffolding strategies that encourage independence and confidence
- Designing classroom routines that celebrate each child’s home language and cultural identity
Through interactive activities and collaborative discussions, participants reflected on their current approaches and identified practical, research-based strategies to create equitable and language-rich learning environments.
Bringing New Ideas Back to BFS
Both teachers returned with a toolkit of adaptable classroom strategies and a renewed commitment to family partnerships and culturally responsive teaching. They also gained valuable insight into how small, intentional shifts can make a big difference in supporting every learner’s voice.
At BFS, these new approaches will help strengthen instruction across subject areas and deepen our inclusive learning culture—ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and supported.
Investing in Our Educators, Strengthening Our Community
Professional learning opportunities like this reflect BFS’s dedication to continual growth. By investing in our teachers, we ensure that students benefit from innovative, evidence-based practices that nurture both academic achievement and personal confidence.
This experience is a shining example of our #BFSSharkValues—Socially Conscious, Hardworking, Active Communicators, Respectful, and Keep Learning—in action. Together, we’re building a school where every language, culture, and identity is celebrated.
