As the 2023-24 school year comes to a close, we celebrate the many ways in which our community has come together to support student learning. Looking back at this academic year, we are proud of our achievements and eagerly anticipate continued growth and learning.

BFS accomplished so much this year including revising our mission and vision statement with the help of our community members. It means so much to us that we have such an amazing community that continues to help us grow and move forward. Thank you, as always.

Mission: Our mission is to empower learners to grow socially, emotionally, and academically in a supportive community. We are committed to providing an inclusive environment that nurtures individual growth and fosters a sense of belonging. We aspire to shape empathetic and open-minded global citizens who think critically and have the skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Vision: At Busan Foreign School, we strive to empower students to excel academically, thrive socially, and become compassionate global citizens and leaders.

In line with our commitment to inclusion and belonging, we are excited to announce our collaboration with Mr. Juan Jacobs Sheblak, Deputy Secondary Principal at UNIS Hanoi. Juan’s unique perspective, shaped by his experiences growing up in South Africa, has profoundly influenced his approach to diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Juan will assist BFS in developing strategies for healing from identity-based harm and implementing restorative practices. He will join us virtually during our Teacher Orientation in August 2024 to work with BFS leadership and faculty. As part of this initiative, BFS will introduce a new anonymous reporting tool and a tiered approach to addressing disciplinary issues through restorative practices. These efforts aim to enhance our students’ emotional growth and safety.

This summer, BFS is committed to improving our facilities to provide an even better learning environment. The renovation plans include an upgrade to our science labs, band room, lobby, cafeteria, roof, and Early Childhood playground. We are also excited to welcome two new chefs who will offer healthy and delicious lunches next school year.

As we continue to embrace diversity and strive for excellence, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our community for their ongoing support. Due to renovations, access to the building will be limited over the summer. For assistance, please email office@bfs.or.kr or call 051 747 7199. We wish everyone an enjoyable, relaxing summer break!

Sincerely,

Mr. Brenneman and Ms. Harvey
