Busan Foreign School’s first graders recently enjoyed a meaningful visit from our Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC), Ms. Daphne Pearson, supported by our School Counselor, Ms. Singley, who together led an engaging “Feelings Bingo” activity designed to help young learners understand and express their emotions.

“Feelings Bingo” transforms the classic bingo game into a child-friendly social-emotional learning activity. Instead of numbers, students work with emotion words and expressive faces, helping them practice identifying and naming a wide range of feelings.

How the Activity Works

Each student receives a Bingo card filled with emotions or illustrated facial expressions. As Ms. Daphnee calls out a feeling or holds up a card, students search for the matching square and cover it. Just like in traditional Bingo, the first student to complete a row, column, or diagonal happily calls out “BINGO!”—but here, the celebration is about connection, understanding, and emotional growth.

Encouraging Emotional Literacy

Throughout the session, Ms. Daphnee and Ms. Singley guided students with simple, reflective prompts such as:

  • “How are you feeling right now?”

  • “Tell me about a time you felt ___.”

  • “Show me what your face looks like when you feel ___.”

These conversations help students develop a healthy emotional vocabulary and recognize that all feelings are normal, valid, and worth understanding.

Why It Matters

Through this activity, students:

  • Strengthen their ability to identify and name emotions

  • Build empathy and communication skills

  • Practice listening, turn-taking, and respectful peer interaction

  • Develop foundational SEL skills aligned with BFS’s SHARK Values, especially Respectful and Active Communicator

BFS is proud to partner with MFLC to support the emotional well-being of all students and create nurturing spaces where young learners can grow, connect, and thrive.
