Over the past month, Grade 5 students have been hard at work on a special Makerspace challenge: the Recycling Initiative Project. This hands-on, team-based activity encouraged students to explore creative ways to promote environmental awareness and action within the school community.
Each group chose a unique focus area, tackling different aspects of recycling and sustainability. Some students designed colorful and eye-catching recycling bins to help encourage proper waste sorting around campus. Others created educational materials—including posters, videos, and presentations—to inform their peers about the importance of recycling and reducing waste. A few even went a step further, transforming discarded items into imaginative upcycled artwork, proving that “trash” can truly become treasure.
To wrap up the project, students presented their work to the entire elementary division. Their presentations highlighted key messages about protecting the planet, reducing waste, and making environmentally responsible choices every day.
The Grade 5 Recycling Initiative Project was not only a celebration of creativity and teamwork—it also served as an inspiring reminder that even small actions can make a big impact on our world.
