In the third quarter, the fourth-grade class at BFS embarked on an exciting journey to explore the rich history of ancient Greece through a cross-curricular unit. This unit, tied to the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards, focused on AERO Standard 4: Cultural Developments and Interactions Among Society. Students delved into the cultural history and traditions of Greek civilization, learning how these elements have shaped modern-day language, values, and beliefs.

The unit provided an opportunity for students to expand their vocabulary by studying common Greek roots and understanding their impact on contemporary language. They also explored Greek allusions, recognizing how these historical stories continue to influence today’s culture.

This interdisciplinary project combined elements of history, art, and communication, allowing students to explore ancient Greece from multiple perspectives. They studied Greek history and culture, creating connections to art by designing and crafting their own ancient Greek-inspired artifacts. Additionally, they honed their public speaking skills by presenting their projects, integrating both historical knowledge and creative expression. This approach provided a holistic learning experience, supporting BFS’s mission to develop well-rounded, critical thinkers who are prepared for a dynamic world.
