Mr. Haddon has been the Director of Busan Foreign School since 2012. Ron’s been a part of the BFS family since 1996 as a student in the 3rd grade. His parents, co-founders James & Amy Haddon, established Busan Foreign School due to the lack of an academically rigorous school in Busan. Mr. Haddon is honored to follow his father’s footsteps as the organizational leader of Busan Foreign School. Mr. Haddon is married to Audrey Y. Haddon, and together raise their one-year old daughter Margaret Grace Haddon.

Iain Macfarlane, Principal of Busan Foreign School, is excited to join BFS during its 20th Anniversary.  He has extensive international work experience as an administrator and is coming to BFS after working in Kuwait for the past eight years.

A teacher at heart, Iain loves working with students, parents and teachers to create a community environment where all members embrace diversity and strive for excellence.  When he is not working, Iain loves spending time with his wife and son, both of whom will be members of the BFS family this year.

Mr. Macfarlane is a Proud Member of The School Superintendent’s Association, Association for Childhood Education International, Association for Education Communications and Technology and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Lauren Harvey has been an educator for over fifteen years in a variety of leadership and teaching positions in Indiana and Korea. She is an experienced teacher, teacher educator, and educational program administrator. As Vice Principal, Mrs. Harvey is responsible for curriculum and instruction, teacher mentoring and professional development, course and activities scheduling, and student discipline.

Mrs. Harvey enjoys spending time with her husband, Joe, and daughter, Kelila, a BFS 5th grader.

Glenn Saunders – Director of Admissions & College Counseling (gsaunders@bfs.or.kr)

Mr. Saunders will be starting his 11th year at Busan Foreign School as the Director of Admissions and College Counseling. After graduating from Ithaca College, his first career path took him to Washington, D.C. working in the U.S. Congress as a legislative assistant and assistant press secretary. While in Washington, D.C. he pursued his graduate degree earning an M.A. from American University. After trying his hand at the federal level of government, Mr. Saunders returned to his home state of Massachusetts taking on the role of chief of staff for a state senator in Boston. He left the world of politics and became manager of major corporate accounts for Akamai Technologies based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. 
Mr. Saunders discovered his passion for teaching after volunteering at the Boston Area Red Cross, teaching history and civics to adults on the path to U.S. citizenship. Mr. Saunders’ transitioned to education over 15 years ago as he became a certified high school social studies teacher in the state of Massachusetts. He taught in the western suburbs of Boston before throwing his hat into the international teaching ring landing here at Busan Foreign School.

Ms. Allepuz, a native of Barcelona (Spain), is starting her fourth year at Busan Foreign School and looking forward to letting the world know about Busan Foreign School. After graduating from Brussels (Belgium) she started working for an American consultancy firm while pursuing her masters in international management. Ms. Allepuz further developed managing complex projects, working within intercultural teams, coaching, and training staff in customer service organizations while becoming an expert in a in a wide array of industries like utilities, banking, logistics for highly professional and reputable companies, such as,ABN AMRO Bank, DHL and APM Terminals to name a few. Having lived and worked on three continents and being a mother of four children (three of them attending BFS), she knows how important the school community is for expatriate parents as well as how critical it is for parents to understand what the school they are sending their children to is truly all about. Ms. Allepuz is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian. She is looking forward to seeing BFS grow in the hearts of its parents, students, teachers, and broader community, as well as solidifying BFS’ image as the American international school of choice for the English speaking community of Busan.

Jason Lee joined BFS June 2017. He has a strong background in finance and strategy. His past experience includes five and a half years as a management consultant at Deloitte, and a year working in the strategy department of Hyundai Motor Group. Jason spent one year in London pursuing an MBA.

During his spare time Jason enjoys playing golf, and spending time with his family.

Ms. Kim holds a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Busan University of Foreign Studies. She also holds a secondary school teaching certificate. Additionally, Ms. Kim is a certified Korean language instructor. She has extensive experience teaching Korean and traditional Korean percussion. Ms. Kim is one of our veteran faculty and has been with Busan Foreign School for over twelve years!

Ellen Fox is happy to introduce herself as the Student Academic Support Services Coordinator and School Counselor at Busan Foreign School. This is her fourth year at BFS, 12th year in the field of education.

Ms. Fox grew up in Middleton, Wisconsin and Heidelberg, Germany. Ms. Fox graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she received her undergraduate degree in History. Ms. Fox then went on to graduate school at Edgewood College and received her teaching credentials from Edgewood College, in Madison, Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, she had been a Special Education teacher and District Mentor for 9 years. Ms. Fox has taught sixth, seventh and eighth grade at MCPASD, with the bulk of those 9 years of experience spent happily at the middle school level. At BFS she enjoys working with all grade levels of students, families and staff PK3-12. Ms. Fox highly regards, and is thrilled to be working with, the students, teachers, administrators, and parents of BFS. Ms. Fox is really enjoying her role in encouraging and counseling all the children to strive for their personal best. Ms. Fox works across all age groups, running peer groups for students at all age levels, coordinating Peer Ambassadors, HS Volunteer Club, BFS Talent Showcase, coaching volleyball and consulting with families and outside agencies. Ms. Fox believes that providing learning opportunities through a variety of life experiences for all students is crucial for learning and creating an equal and fair environment in school. Ms. Fox’s spare time is spent with her two wonderful children traveling, volunteering in the community, hiking, spending time with family and friends.

Patrick Galles joined BFS last year as the Shark Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher (K-12). Mr. Galles came to BFS after spending a little more than two decades teaching and leading programs in Tokyo at an American international school quite similar in size and scope to BFS.

Originally from the state of Iowa in the U.S., Pat and his family have called northern Minnesota home since 1996, where, along with his siblings and parents operate an international summer camp program during the summer holidays.

As Mr. Galles enters his second year at BFS he is eager to work once again in support of all BFS students, and Shark Athletic Program as a whole.

Ms. Potter comes to BFS from Chester, Virginia. She earned her Bachelors of Arts from Christopher Newport University with a major in fine arts and minor in art history. Ms. Potter received her teaching credentials from University of Richmond and is licensed to teacher elementary education Pre K-6th grade and visual arts K-12th grade. She spent her first year at BFS teaching kindergarten and is the second grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. In her spare time she enjoys visiting museums and hiking.

Mrs. Virgen came to Korea from Phoenix, Arizona two years ago. She received a duel degree in elementary and special education from Grand Canyon University. This will be Mrs. Virgen third year teaching 3rd grade at BFS. In the 2014/2015 school year she taught 3rd grade at a school in school in Arizona. Mrs. Virgen lived in Ireland for a year as a child but grew up in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She loves to travel to new places, exercise, hang out with friends, and go to church. Mrs. Virgen is so thrilled to share her love for learning with her students. Mrs. Virgen and her husband, Alam Virgen, are excited to live in Korea for a third year. Mr. Virgen will be returning as the high school math teacher at BFS.

Mr. Gates is a native of La Crosse, Wisconsin and is enjoying his fifth year teaching middle school and high school mathematics at Busan Foreign School. In addition to teaching, Mr. Gates has also enjoyed various coaching opportunities, including middle school and high school basketball and baseball. In his free time, he enjoys learning about new things and cultures, listening to music, watching sports, and staying active. He is grateful for all of the opportunities and challenges presented during his time teaching at BFS, both in and out of the classroom.

Meghan Leland joins Busan Foreign School from Bozeman, Montana, where she was born and raised. After graduating with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree in English with dual emphases in Literature and Teaching as well as a minor in Art History from the University of Montana in Missoula, Ms. Leland moved back to Bozeman to live with her parents and work as a substitute teacher for two years before moving to Busan. Ms. Leland is a big fan of reading, the Oxford comma, and chocolate. After spending the summer in the States with her family eating delicious turkey sandwiches, Ms. Leland will return to BFS for her fifth year. She will teach Introduction to Literature, AP Seminar, Senior English, and Critical Reading and Writing.

Mr. Chapa has taught at Busan Foreign School since 2013. He has taught a variety of music classes, clubs, and student organizations during his time at BFS. He now teaches early childhood and elementary music. Mr. Chapa is also a member of the Korea International Music Educators Association. Born and raised in Lapeer Michigan, he graduated with honors from Western Michigan University earning a degree in Music Education. Mr. Chapa continues to perform professionally as a jazz musician and guest artist throughout Korea.

Kristy Cressey is excited to be joining BFS team as the PK3 teacher. This will be Kristy’s 6th year as a teacher. She was born in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada. She received her B.Sc. at Laurentian University. After graduation, she did a year of unqualified teaching where she learned of her passion for education. Upon achieving her teaching credentials at Nipissing University, she went on to teach in Kuwait for two years, Brazil for one year and back home in Canada for 2 years.

In her free time, Kristy and her husband Scotty enjoy being parents to their two little boys, as a family they enjoy camping, hiking, bike rides and just generally being outdoors.

Aimee Demers begins her seventeenth year teaching and her second year at BFS. She is excited and proud to be a part of the Early Childhood team as our K4 teacher. Aimee was born in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with Emphasis in Education, specialization in Child Development, and Multiple Subjects California Teaching Credential from San Diego State University, and has a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology. After teaching Kindergarten in San Diego, California for five years, Aimee ventured overseas to teach in international schools and has taught in London, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Mumbai. Aimee enjoys sharing her passion for teaching and love for learning with her students, and happily considers the Early Childhood learning space her home away from home.

Aimee, her partner, and their young daughter are thrilled to be living in beautiful Busan. Aimee loves the outdoors, long train trips, exploring nature, hiking, rollerblading, and spending time with her family and friends across the globe. Aimee feels fortunate to be a part of the BFS community and is looking forward to many new experiences shared with her colleagues and her K4 class and their families this school year.

Summer grew up outside of Little Rock, Arkansas, playing competitive sports through high school. After studying history at the University of Central Arkansas, Summer served as a retail manager, but soon found her passion in education. She married her husband, Mike, (a BFS high school teacher) in 2005 and soon earned her Masters degree in Education. Together, they lived in Germany, Belgium and England where Summer taught grades 1-3 and served in several leadership positions. Summer is a proud mother of two wonderful children. Maxwell (3.5 years) and Kate (nearly 2). In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading and hiking with their two dogs.

This is Miss Sterr’s second year on the BFS team. She’s from a small town in Southeastern Wisconsin and has been working with primary-age children for the past 8 years as a photographer, tutor, Au Pair, and teacher. She recently taught in Doha, Qatar and has also lived abroad in Prague.

In her free time, Amber enjoys running, hiking, going to the beach, exploring, traveling, problem solving, and decorating.

Erik Nelson is a graduate of Texas Christian University in History and holds an Elementary Ed degree from Montana State University. Two weeks after graduating from T.C.U.. Erik moved to the wilds of West Yellowstone, Montana where he lived in a one room log cabin on Hebgen Lake for twelve years. His fondness of the wilderness inspired him to become a wildlife photographer. He now has a little “ranch” outside of Ennis, Montana with his wife Christy. Erik enjoys hiking throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, camping with his family, is an avid reader, and enjoys painting wildlife portraits in acrylic. He also rips on the harmonica and is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. He is married to Christy Nelson, also an elementary teacher here at Busan, and has two children, Mason Lee, 8 and Elsie Mae, 5. Erik has enjoyed the world of international teaching and all it has to offer. He and his family have spent the last two years in Kuwait and are very excited to move to the mountains of Busan.

Christy Nelson graduated from Montana State University Bozeman with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and also holds an Endorsement in Special Education. Christy grew up in Illinois but soon after graduating high school moved to Montana. She worked in Yellowstone National Park and Big Sky, Montana before moving to Bozeman to attend college. Christy fell in with the mountains, met her husband Erik, and settled in Montana to raise a family. Christy loves the outdoors and sports. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking with her dog, and experiencing new people and places. Christy is excited to share her passion of learning with the students of BFS. Christy is looking forward to living in Busan and being part of the Busan Foreign School community.

Mrs. So came to Busan Foreign School from Redondo Beach, California. Mrs. So holds Master of Arts in Elementary Education and Montessori Teaching Diploma. She is a member of Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) and Phi Delta Kappa International since 2006. She has taught diverse students in the U.S.A. and Korea. She has worked on curriculum development, leadership teams, and various other committees throughout her career. She is excited about starting her eighth year at BFS. Mrs. So is passionate about children, languages, reading, traveling, and learning.

Ms. Taylor is from the Chicago suburbs where she has spent the past 35 years teaching Spanish, ESL, 5th grade bilingual education, and worked as an administrator. For years, she has been looking forward to teaching abroad, and after a very fulfilling public education career in northern Illinois, is excited to join BFS as the K-8 Spanish teacher. Ms. Taylor is passionate about Spanish and traveling, has been to several Spanish speaking countries, as well as lead student homestay programs in Mexico. Ms. Taylor enjoys spending time with her adult children, who live in the Chicagoland area as well. She also enjoys spending time outdoors and in nature including sailing, hiking, and scuba diving and hopes to enjoy these activities in Busan. She also loves listening to music, going to concerts and riding her motorcycle, but might try a moped in Korea instead.

Heejin Lee started to join BFS as a high school tutor and a member of the BFS Community, working as a part of the SASS Team for the past 5 and a half years. She has experience in various educational areas and different age groups from kindergarteners to adults with focus on ESL and Math for over 15 years. Although she majored in science, she was so interested in different languages and cultures that it led her to get more than 13 certificates from the Global Citizenship Education organized by BFIC where she was a voluntary Korean teacher and support. She is currently doing her master’s for Korean Education and working as a research assistant at the Science Department of PKNU as a translator and vice-editor.

She looks most forward to meeting BFS families as a new HS Korean teacher and is very excited to support our students’ growth emotionally, socially as well as academically. Ms. L loves to admire the beauty of nature by taking photos and strolling along the beach or in the forest in her free time.

Maria Tsoy – Russian Language (mchoi@bfs.or.kr)

Ms. Tsoy joined BFS as Russian and Korean language teacher in August 2017. Ms. Tsoy was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and has lived in Busan since 2012 . After graduating she tutored students in Tashkent and Busan. Ms. Tsoy enjoys teaching, traveling, reading, and learning new languages. Through teaching she wants to inspire students with her passion for knowledge.

Mr. Chapa continues to perform professionally as a jazz musician and guest artist throughout Korea.

Patrick Galles joined BFS last year as the Shark Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher (K-12). Mr. Galles came to BFS after spending a little more than two decades teaching and leading programs in Tokyo at an American international school quite similar in size and scope to BFS.

Originally from the state of Iowa in the U.S., Pat and his family have called northern Minnesota home since 1996, where, along with his siblings and parents operate an international summer camp program during the summer holidays.

As Mr. Galles enters his second year at BFS he is eager to work once again in support of all BFS students, and Shark Athletic Program as a whole.

A long way from his home in Sewanee, Tennessee, Mr. Huffman is excited to team up with BFS to teach the computer science! Having been a lifelong gamer, Mr. Huffman began his coding education at Macalester College in 2009 and four years later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science. He worked as a software developer in Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years, volunteering as an ESL teacher in his spare time. He enjoyed teaching and learning about other cultures so much that in 2015 he decided to pursue a career in education abroad, and spent a year working as a Resident Assistant at an American international boarding school in Salzburg, Austria. In September of 2016, he spent a month obtaining his CELTA teaching ESL to young adults in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Seeking work as an English teacher, he moved to Busan, South Korea. And like true love, the opportunity to teach middle schoolers how to code came to him when he wasn’t looking for it. He is delighted to combine his passion and professional experience to teach two coding electives (one of them is brand new!) in the fall!
In his spare time, Mr. Huffman is an avid gamer and a cook. He is currently trying to learn how to speak and cook Korean.

Amy Wesen is the K-12 school librarian at Busan Foreign School. She was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana and is a 2008 graduate of Montana State University. She spent her student teaching experience abroad in Gisborne, New Zealand. After graduation, she worked as the Lead Tutor for CampFire USA in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved back to Bozeman where she spent four years working at a K-8 rural school as the After School Program teacher and Paraprofessional focused on teaching students with special needs. She spent one year teaching middle school in Miles City, Montana for 7th and 8th graders in Life and Earth Science. Amy completed her Library Media endorsement through online courses at Montana State University in 2015. The opportunity to work in South Korea as a librarian at Busan Foreign School was an opportunity Amy didn’t want to pass up. She coaches the following sports here at BFS: High School Basketball, Elementary Basketball and Track and Field.

Amy is an avid reader and has a passion for the outdoors. She relishes downhill skiing, backpacking, camping and is an avid hiker. Excited for her second year at BFS, Amy hopes to instill in students a love for reading and an appreciation for the lifetime resources a library offers.

Mr. Evans has been teaching since 2012, and has taught in Bangkok, Thailand, Henrico County, Virginia and Petersburg, Virginia.

Scott Cressey was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Growing up on the Great Lakes Scott developed a real love of outdoors and the natural environment. Perusing this passion into adult hood he attended Lakehead University where he majored in Science and later Niagara College to acquire a digital mapping and data interpretation experience. Scott has had the opportunity to work on several environmental studies with both governmental and private groups. During his time as a field tech he happened upon an opportunity to teach and train and a new passion was born. After acquiring his teaching degree, Scott has had the opportunity to teach science at both the senior and junior level.

He is really looking forward to sharing his love of science with the students of BFS and helping to inspire the critical thinkers of the future. In his free time he enjoys traveling and outdoors with his family.

After receiving her B. S. degree from Cornell University in Environmental Studies, Ms. Branch moved to Oregon. She first worked for the U. S. Forest Service in Fire and Erosion Control. Next she worked as the Science and Environmental Education Specialist for Lane Education Services district serving Lane County, Oregon. After serving as the President of the Environmental Education Association of Oregon, she founded her own business in Educational Consulting. Years later, after studying at Gonzaga University in Washington State, she was granted a Masters degree in Administration and Curriculum Design. She went on to teach science and math at several school districts in eastern Washington State. After that Ms. Branch and her husband Mr. Branch moved to Orcas Island off the west coast of Washington State near Vancouver Island, Canada. While there, Ms. Branch first worked for Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission as the director of the Moran Outdoor School. Later she taught grades 6-12 math and sciences at the Orcas Island School district and a college course in Oceanography for University of Washington. After that she served in a governmental job as the Marine Programs Specialist helping to guide environmental policy for San Juan county and Washington State. Mr. Branch (who was an Industrial Designer, and had earlier taught ESL and Forestry Lab and Field classes at University in Brazil) taught ELL classes and worked as a classroom aide and substitute teacher for the Orcas School District just as he does here at Busan Foreign School. Together, Mr. and Ms. Branch also founded and directed the Orcas Island Youth Conservation Corps. Here in Busan they love to teach at BFS, to hike and see the beautiful sights in South Korea, eat amazing and wonderful new foods, and dance whenever possible.

He was born and raised in Mexico, but moved to America when he was in sixth grade. He is fluent in both Spanish and English. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with emphasis in Mathematics at Grand Canyon University. He was involved in leadership at GCU as a Resident Assistant and Global Outreach Coordinator. Mr. Virgen will continue teaching Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. Mr. Virgen comes to us with AP training and experience from his previous school in Arizona. He will also continue leading the High School Student Council this year. Ms. Leland is a big fan of reading, the Oxford comma, and chocolate. After spending the summer in the States with her family eating delicious turkey sandwiches, Ms. Leland will return to BFS for her fifth year. She will teach Introduction to Literature, AP Seminar, Senior English, and Critical Reading and Writing.

Hailing from rural Pennsylvania, Megan Boyle’s path to teaching began in 2008 when she went to college in New Hampshire to get her degree in English Teaching from the University of New Hampshire. Here, she also received minors in Deaf Studies and Environmental Conservation. She studied abroad in London during her junior year, where she took drama, art, and literature classes.

After graduating with honors from UNH in 2012, Ms. Boyle worked in a small town in New Hampshire, teaching high school English to grades 9-12 for three years. In 2015, she moved to Austria, where she worked as a Resident Assistant and teacher at the American International School Salzburg for one year. She has traveled much of Europe and the continental US, and is looking forward to the chance to explore some of Asia throughout her time at BFS.

This year, her second year at BFS, she will be teaching Senior English, American Literature, Contemporary Literature Through Film, and AP Literature. She looks forward to working with her students to create well-rounded, articulate global citizens.

This is Mr. Neeno’s 16th year of teaching abroad, having taught in Bolivia, Taiwan, Kuwait, Brazil, Qatar & Egypt, as well as the Navajo Reservation, Phoenix, Arizona, and the Oregon Coast. Mr. Neeno am originally from Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in the Midwest until he discovered the joys of exploring the world. Mr. Neeno remains a student of history, as well as science, music, and religion. He enjoys writing, having written articles for magazines and encyclopedias. Mr. Neeno is currently working on collecting my researches and blogs about the places we have traveled to into a book. In the classroom He stresses debate, as it it teaches research skills, reasoning, team work, and backing up what you say with evidence. He has coached teams in Kuwait to victories in debate competitions in the Middle East, as well as Model UN, and Academic Games/Quiz Bowl.

In his spare time Mr. Neeno loves nothing more than exploring nature, or cities that you can walk around in; and getting to know new cultures and new experiences. Mr. Neeno also loves science fiction/fantasy literature, and has recently discovered the addictive joys of the Game of Thrones books!

Sarah Sánchez Armstrong hails from Colorado and the southwestern US, where her family has been rooted for many generations. She has over 15 years of experience in management, instruction, and leadership having served as a a Ski School Director, a certified Ski and Snowboard Instructor, a River Guide Instructor Trainer, a Volunteer Ski Patroller, a Representative on the Hesperus Ski Patrol Board of Directors, and as Secretary for the BFS PTSO. She has traveled extensively and is deeply passionate about family, jiu jitsu, camping, running rivers, making pizza, multicultural education, and the study of linguistics. Señora Sánchez has taught High School Spanish (levels 2-4) at a Project Based Learning charter school, Adult Conversational Spanish, College Preparatory Spanish for underprivileged youth, Elementary Spanish (kindergarten-5th grade), and High School Spanish at BFS (levels 3-5). During the 2017/18 BFS school year, she will assume the role of High School Spanish instructor to all levels, with language education approached through creativity, rigor, literacy development, and real world applications.

Lisa JeongHye Park has studied and worked in the UK, Taiwan, India and Hong Kong. As a language teacher and as a learner, she has experienced diversity and culture. Thus, in her teaching, she stresses the need to understand different cultures by interacting with the local communities.

Ms. Park believes the world is broad, diverse and colorful. She is a certified Yoga instructor. She likes using techniques such as a drama play and yoga movements in her teaching.

Ms. Park is convinced that learning languages is the gateway to linking people and knowledge.

Ken Morrison– Technology Integration Specialist (kmorrison@bfs.or.kr)

Ken Morrison is an Apple Distinguished Educator who has presented at more than 20 educational conferences in Asia. He was one of fifteen educators in Korea to be selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) by Apple. Since then, he has been selected to attend five global or regional events hosted by Apple and present at two of Apple’s Asia-Pacific Institutes.

Mr. Morrison taught new media technology and video classes at Linton School of Global Business (Hannam University) He also helped design and teach summer curriculum for a “Global Leadership and Dreams” program for Yonsei University and Samsung. Mr. Morrison worked closely with the the organizers of the 2015 World Water Forum which was hosted in Korea and has lead corporate training for Raytheon and Chevrolet.

Before moving to Korea, Mr. Morrison produced television commercials for seven years. During his university years, he did internships each summer. These internships included on-camera news reporting for an NBC station and helping the graphic team for all home St. Louis Cardinal baseball broadcasts during the summer of 1998. He enjoys both teaching and helping other BFS teachers wisely integrate technology into their classroom to help students learn in meaningful ways.

Mike married his lovely wife, Summer, (also a new BFS teacher) in 2005 and spent 10 years living in Germany, Belgium and England. After leaving the military, Mike taught 2nd grade for four years while regularly teaching technology courses at the collegiate level. Mike and Summer have two wonderful children. Maxwell (3.5 years) and Kate (nearly 2). He enjoys traveling, working out, all things “tech” and spending time with his family.

Ms. Hwang has taught art for the students of Busan Foreign School for fifteen years now. She teaches a gamut of art classes from visual concepts to Early Childhood onto theory and visual communications for High school AP Studio Art and Middle school students. Art provides students with the means to pursue practical applications of art productions in a variety of media, within the contexts of critical thinking and broad social perspectives, in this day of age. This composed of courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, print media, intermediate design, and critical theory.

Amy Wesen is the K-12 school librarian at Busan Foreign School. She was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana and is a 2008 graduate of Montana State University. She spent her student teaching experience abroad in Gisborne, New Zealand. After graduation, she worked as the Lead Tutor for CampFire USA in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved back to Bozeman where she spent four years working at a K-8 rural school as the After School Program teacher and Paraprofessional focused on teaching students with special needs. She spent one year teaching middle school in Miles City, Montana for 7th and 8th graders in Life and Earth Science. Amy completed her Library Media endorsement through online courses at Montana State University in 2015. The opportunity to work in South Korea as a librarian at Busan Foreign School was an opportunity Amy didn’t want to pass up. She coaches the following sports here at BFS: High School Basketball, Elementary Basketball and Track and Field.

Amy is an avid reader and has a passion for the outdoors. She relishes downhill skiing, backpacking, camping and is an avid hiker. Excited for her second year at BFS, Amy hopes to instill in students a love for reading and an appreciation for the lifetime resources a library offers.

Angela Suk was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. After teaching English as a Second Language for 4 years in Canada and Korea, she moved to Australia to pursue her Masters in Teaching, working and studying in the education field. She worked with grades 5, 6 and 7 while there. She then moved to Kuwait to teach at the American School of Kuwait. During her eight years there, she taught grade 4 and 5 and taught in the upper elementary computer lab. She is a Google Certified Teacher and has attended conferences in Muscat, Oman, Mumbai, India and in Kuwait. This is Ms. Suk’s second year at BFS.

In her free time, Angela enjoys camping, hiking, reading and cooking for family and friends. She also enjoys traveling to new cultures and exploring new areas with her family. She hopes to engage her students to become risk takers in a safe and supportive environment.

Maureen O’Brien will be teaching high school English as a Second Language (ESL). She also hope to assist with cross country and track and field. This desire reflects her passion for running, hiking and walking. Mrs. O’Brien comes to Busan Foreign School from Minneapolis Public Schools. She has been teaching for 17 years now. Mrs. O’Brien has taught a diverse group of students at all grade levels (K – 12). Mrs. O’Brien has an 18 year old daughter and a loving and supportive husband. She is very excited about teaching at Busan Foreign School.

Ms. Kim holds a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Busan University of Foreign Studies. She also holds a secondary school teaching certificate. Additionally, Ms. Kim is a certified Korean language instructor. She has extensive experience teaching Korean and traditional Korean percussion. Ms. Kim is one of our veteran faculty and has been with Busan Foreign School for over fifteen years!

Ms. Jang has been working here at Busan Foreign School for five year after graduating from Hanyang University with a B.A. in English Literature. She is originally from Haeundae, Busan, but moved to Seoul since she had to attend on Hanyang University and lived there while she was in the university. As she studied and worked in U.S.A and Mexico, she improved her communication skills in English and Spanish. In addition, she volunteered in a variety of Children’s English Camps teaching and assisting the children. At Busan Foreign School, she mainly handles with admissions inquiry and all the paperwork regarding the students’ enrollment. In her free time, she enjoys traveling all around the world.

Ms Hwang received a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering from Inje University. She completed Business English Program in University of Washington in USA. She has extensive experience in working in the international work places. This is her fifth year at Busan Foreign School. She is really excited to be a member of BFS!

Ms. Shim has completed bachelors’ degree in English Literature from Donga University and this is her third year at BFS. Ms. Choi started her career at BFS after graduating from Changwon National University. While in College, she worked on marketing projects for the Korea Airport Corporation (KAC), and Changwon City. She received a grand award for her designs from the Korea Airport Corporation. Ms. Choi understands the importance that good design plays in communicating with stakeholders. She is very glad to be a member of the BFS family.

Ms. Yun Kyoung Park was born in Busan and has lived in Haeundae until recently. She believes in the importance of learning through the job. In particular, she successfully  lead a group of Korean students and ensured their well being while studying English in China.
Ms. Park enjoys traveling around the world, and working with young learners. She apreciates cultural diversity. She is excited to be a member of BFS!

Hyun Suk Kim graduated from Busan Catholic University with a major in Clinical Pathology. She has a license as a clinical pathologist. She has worked at the children’s hospital and Health Promotion Center for 10 years. She also majored in English literature at the Korean National Open University. Last year she took the Korea Red Cross certificate for first- aid. Ms. Kim is always ready to help students when they need her.

Jason Lee joined BFS June 2017. He has a strong background in finance and strategy. His past experience includes five and a half years as a management consultant at Deloitte, and a year working in the strategy department of Hyundai Motor Group. Jason spent one year in London pursuing an MBA.

During his spare time Jason enjoys playing golf, and spending time with his family.
