The Selection by Kiera Cass
Romantic Fiction
The Selection is an enthralling romantic fiction book written by Kiera Cass. This book is based around America Singer, a teenage girl who is picked to enter a competition with 35 other girls. They all aim to win the heart of Prince Maxon and therefore become the crowned princess of Illéa. Throughout the book America struggles to fit into the palace life, and, as time goes on, to pick between two lovers, each of which would change her life completely. Overall, I think this book deserves a five-star rating. The storyline of this book keeps you on an emotional rollercoaster, balancing the quiet struggles of love with mysterious villains and war. The Selection includes romantic aspects while still adding just enough action to keep you excited and waiting for trouble. The author writes in a way that makes you feel relatable to the characters, despite the fact that they live in an alternate universe with unimaginable struggles. Moreover, Kiera Cass makes the palace life seem immensely realistic which adds to the reader’s ability to imagine and relate to the book as a whole. If you liked The Hunger Games, Divergent, or Twilight, this book will not disappoint, including the classic love triangle with danger and stress coming between relationships.
