Ship Breaker By Paolo Bacigalupi
Ship Breaker, by Paolo Bacigalupi, is a science fiction novel following the adventures of a teenage boy named Nailer. He lives with his father, an abusive alcoholic, who’s constantly hurting Nailer. The people on Bright Sands Beach scavenge old and broken ships to collect anything that can be sold. One day, Nailer and his friend Pima find a wrecked clipper ship. Inside the swanky boat, they find a girl who could change their lives in unimaginable ways. I give this book five stars because it shows the themes of friendship and making choices in a relatable, page-turning way. The author’s descriptions and the development of characters make you feel as if you are there with them. If you liked the Scythe series, you’re sure to enjoy this because both books have the aspect of suspense and make you feel intrigued to continue reading.
