As usual, Busan Foreign School has so many after school sports going on that it’s a challenge to keep track of them all.
Three sports recently finished:
1.High School Volleyball finished October 5th. The team had a really good year, playing very well at the SKAC Championships at BIFS. They also put on an electrifying performance vs the teachers at an all-school pep rally which I’m sure inspired younger students to want to get involved. Seniors Adam Lossiah and Stephan Lee led the team. Coaches Mrs. Lossiah, Coach Peterson, and myself were very pleased with how the team improved.
2. 3rd-12 grade Cross Country finished October 7 with the SKAC championships at a challenging course in Ulsan. Middle and High School were once again coached by Mr. Parada, while elementary was coached by Mr. Zwingleberg, Mr. Hellman, and Mrs. Virgen. Jihong Lee was the SKAC Girls High School champion while Nastya Kim was the SKAC Girls Middle School champion! Cross Country is a grueling sport, not for the faint of heart. Great job by everyone involved.
3. Elementary Soccer finished October 21st. Sixteen students were coached by Mr. Pynonnen and Mr. Lossiah. They had their end of the year SKAC tournament in Daegu and did very well. The future of soccer at BFS is strong.
Middle School Soccer is still in full swing with their end of the year championships coming up November 11 in Handong. Coaches Mijares and Mr. Virgen are doing a great job with 15 student athletes. Keep up the good work!
High School Basketball has started. Their first tournament is November 14 at sister school GIFS. The championships will be December 7, with BFS hosting the girls tournament this year. As it’s been the last two years, expect our tournament to be very spirited and very loud! Boys are being coached by ‘Mr. Basketball’ Mr. Gates while the girls are coached by Mr. Thorsen. Mr. Brennan is an assistant coach on both teams.
Elementary and Middle School Volleyball will begin in December. Elementary will attend a SKAC clinic at a place to be determined on December 5th, and, along with Middle School, will have a competition in January.
The enthusiasm by both coaches and athletes at our fantastic little school sure makes my job an enjoyable one.
BFS FIGHTING and GO SHARKS!!
