On Tuesday, Nov 29, the High School Model United Nations Team went to the SKAC Model UN Tournament in Kwangju, where they represented BFS in competition with five other schools from around Korea. Students played the role of representatives from 11 different countries, including the United States, Greece, Argentina and Syria.
Students proposed resolutions on current issues that the UN is discussing, such as the crisis in Yemen, relief for refugees in Aleppo, the militarization of space, and workers’ rights in the textile industry; debating and defending resolutions in the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the Human Rights and Economic & Social Committees.
Our team got to compete and interact with top students from across Korea, and got to practice such real life skills as research, logic, planning, and on-the-fly decision making.
In the end our students developed and passed three of the twelve final resolutions that were decided on – an outstanding showing.
Thanks to all our 21 representatives, and to Ms. Wiehe and Ms. Harvey for their support in making this all happen.
