Dear Fourth Grade Community,

As the last few days schools roll in, Fourth Grade has been busy wrapping up their units. Their final math unit is the shortest math unit, yet one of the toughest as they have convert the US metric unit of measurements. It’s a great review on their multiplication skills.

Additionally, 4th graders have been reflecting on their reading. They were incredibly honest on their reflections and wrote some insightful summer reading goals. Your child will show this to you and you will sign it. Please use the opportunity to communicate with them about their reading. They even wrote ways to parents to encourage their reading at home.

Lastly, were are some upcoming events for the next week.

Current Learning Targets

Reading: Students are continuing to learn about current real world issues facing kids all over the world, i.e., child farmworkers, racism, pandemic lives, kids who live in remote places and their journey to school. We are finishing reading social issues with a Socratic Seminar.

Writing: We shared our poetry anthologies and we started with some comic strip writing!

Math: Students finished decimals and fractions, now they are moving to US customary units of measurement (inches, yard, feet, gallons, etc)

Science: We will be starting some Mystery Science Projects next week and using this time to do some housekeeping.

In learning,

Dear Fourth Grade Community,

I am pleased to welcome you to fourth grade.  We have an exciting year ahead of us and ready to kick off the year at Busan Foreign School. I would like to start by introducing myself. My name is Brenda Aguilar, but I will go by Mrs. B. This is my fourth year at BFS. I am originally from Los Angeles, California and have lived in Michigan, Washington DC, and Mexico working, studying and teaching. When I am not teaching, you will find me enjoying the outdoors, creating new healthy recipes, or relaxing at a café.

I feel honored for the opportunity to teach your child this year. I truly enjoy working with fourth graders because this is a year of substantial growth both academically and social-emotionally. It is my goal for every child to reach their maximum potential.  I feel this can be achieved with a helpful and continuous collaboration at home and school. I will keep you informed on a weekly basis about fourth grade learning so you are in the loop of all the exciting learning experiences happening in our classroom.

The first day of virtual school is Tuesday, August 17th. Our day starts with Morning Meeting,  8:30am- 9:00am. The rest of the day is dedicated to Seesaw learning. Please keep updated with any news from BFS and my newsletter to keep apprised of any important school matters or news.  However, if you have any concerns, questions or anything important you would like me to know about your child, please don’t hesitate to contact me at baguilar@bfs.or.kr. I will try my best to contact you within 24 hours. I will also have Zoom office hours from 9:00 -11:00 and 12:00-1:30pm if your child has any questions on assignments or would just like to get to know their teacher!

Looking forward to a wonderful school year!

Best,

Mrs. Brenda aka “Mrs. B”
