February has been a FULL month: birthdays, learning, questions, and the development of eggs to chicks!

Last week, we watched our eggs turn into chicks. Friends LITERALLY fell over when they first met our new babies. We waved, we smiled, and we squealed at how CUTE they were. For the next 4 weeks, we will take care of these chicks. Many discussions will take place about how we will care for these animals: food, water, home. Carry on this conversation at home. I’m sure it is ALL your child will want to talk about.

In language arts, we will transition from opposite words to rhyming. Similarly, rhyming will enhance your child’s vocabulary. It will allow friends to notice and play with different sounds -however silly they may be. It will help them notice word families (cat, mat, sat, bat.) Rhyming tends to be a little tricky for friends who are still learning English, but I know our K-4 brains will work their hardest!

In math, we will be wrapping up patterns and begin exploring measurement. Measurement includes length, height, and weight, just to name a few. We will use non-standard ways to measure objects (i.e. Can you tell me how long your foot is using bears? Can you tell me how high the paper is using blocks?) Our goal with measurement is to expose K-4 friends to these concepts for success in the future.

Since the beginning of the year, we have been using different materials and mediums to make process art. March 18 will be the EC Art Gala. We will have on display some of our art pieces. This will be a wonderful day to come together to see your child’s artistic mind, as well as to meet the chicks. Save the date and look for more details to follow!

Friendly Reminders…

  • As the season begins to change, please have your child dressed appropriately. We want to spend as much time outside as we can -jackets are important!
  • Please be sure to have your child bring a water bottle to school every day.
  • We have P.E every day; remember your running shoes!
  • We have Library every Friday. Make sure to return your books before then.

Hello K4 Parents and Families

Welcome to Busan Foreign School and welcome to Kinder-4! My name is Ariana Carr and I am happy to start another learning journey with friends at BFS. It is a privilege to be your child’s teacher this year alongside Ms. Sujin, our K4 Teaching Assistant. Thank-you for entrusting us with your child to learn and grow together.  I know if we work together, it will be the best year yet!

I am originally from Pennsylvania, USA. I received my Bachelors of Education from Westminster College. For three years, I was teaching in the Philippines in the PK-3 classrooms. It was difficult to leave the tropical beauty of the Philippines, but I am thrilled to be surrounded by the beaches and mountains here in Busan. Your child is at a great age of curiosity and discovery. It is my goal and hope this year to  foster this exploration and to create a love of learning. Our early childhood approach  at BFS is inspired by Reggio Emilia. This approach believes by creating a purposeful  environment, children are free to explore, experiment and discovery through play.  Your child’s ideas and risks will be celebrated!

I look forward to working closely with you. It is important to me that your child comes home from school happy and with many new and exciting experiences and stories to share with you. The student information form attached will help prepare me with some of the goals and desires you have for your child this year and will give me insight into valuable information regarding your child’s individual needs and personality. Please complete the form at your earliest convenience and it will remain with me confidentially.

Please also find the attached classroom supply list. It would be appreciated if you are able to send in the supplies no later than Wednesday, August 15. Please do not hesitate to contact me ( when you have a question or concern. I will always be happy to hear from you. Ms. Son and I are looking forward to a wonderful year together with you and your child!

Happy Learning!

Ms. Ariana Carr
