Dear Parents,
We are excited to start our new school year. Amid a recent increase in Busan’s COVID-19 cases, the city and ministry of education of Busan have issued strong recommendations to increase social distancing within our school community.
At Busan Foreign School, we take our students’ safety and well-being into the utmost consideration.
We know that you rely on our reputation for a high-quality education. We also know that we can deliver our best both face to face and virtually.
We will be starting the school year in a hybrid learning model for our middle and high school students.
A hybrid model will allow for increased social distancing, lessened screen time, and enable students to socialize, meet their teachers, and benefit from the advantages of learning in a physical classroom. We will continue with this hybrid model until further notice.
What does this mean for me?
If you have children in early childhood through grade 5, your child will attend school daily. Our enhanced safety procedures are in place, including mandatory use of masks, daily temperature checks, bento boxes if you are on the school lunch plan, no school attendance if sick, etc.
We understand some parents might choose not to send their children to school, in which case we will mark their absences as excused.
If you have children in middle and high school, half of our student cohort will physically attend school each day. On Friday morning, you will receive an email informing you of your child’s group. Some students will begin school on Monday 24th, while others on Tuesday 25th. On the days the students do not attend school, they will need to study independently based on the assignments given by their teachers. Attendance on those days will be taken based on student completion of those assignments.
At BFS, we are happy to begin the school year to allow us to spend face to face time with all of our students.
Please check your emails frequently for further announcements on standard health and safety procedures, MS&HS group allocation, and mandatory completion of a health questionnaire before school starts.
Furthermore, we would like to invite you to a 15-minute webinar information session tomorrow, Friday afternoon (details to be provided in the morning), where we will explain in more detail the hybrid model, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.

부산외국인학교에서는 학생들의 안전과 안녕을 최대한 고려하고 있습니다.

정리하자면,
만약 여러분의 자녀가 유치부에서 5학년이라면, 매일 학교에 등교할 것입니다. 마스크 착용 의무화, 매일 체온 검사, 학교 급식을 먹는다면 도시락 제공, 아프면 등교하지 않기 등 강화된 안전 절차가 마련되어 있습니다.
일부 학부모님들께서는 아직 우려스러운 마음에 아이들을 학교에 등교시키고 싶지 않을 수 도 있다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 이 경우에는 학생들은 공결 (excused absence) 처리 될 것입니다.
만약 여러분의 자녀가 중고등학생이라면, 매일 중고등학생들의 절반만 등교할 것 입니다. 8월 21일 금요일 오전에 등교 그룹을 알려주는 이메일을 보내드릴 것 입니다. 어떤 학생들은 8월 24일 월요일에 첫 등교를 하고, 또 어떤 학생들은 8월 25일에 첫 등교를 할 것 입니다. 학생들이 학교에 나오지 않는 날에는 선생님들이 내준 과제를 바탕으로 집에서 독립적으로 공부해야 하고, 그 날의 출석은 학생이 그 과제를 완료했는가를 기준으로 처리 될 것입니다.
BFS는 모든 학생들과 얼굴을 마주하고 새 학기를 시작하게 되어 매우 기쁩니다.
